![]() How did Courtney come into the universe of Make Them Suffer? Was the song complete and then she was added into the process or did she have amore a collaborative role in the creation of the track? We belong to a niche of metal that is rapidly evolving so it’s nice to see that listeners within this niche are reacting to music that isn’t necessarily being written to the trend. I definitely take comfort in knowing that there is a ‘timeless’ aspect to the foundation of music being written. McLernon – A lot of the music we end up recording actually comes from a songwriting bank dated back years and years. Do you take any artistic pride in knowing that something you wrote more than five years ago still holds up? You have explained that the bones of the track has been around since 2016. We had just been on tour and made close friends with Spiritbox so the whole things just made sense. It was the first song we would release coming out of the hibernation after ‘How to Survive a Funeral’. However, lyrically and thematically, the music is so close to us and we’re extremely conscious of who we ask to do guest features. McLernon – Truthfully, we would always like to have guest features over our music. Was that a conscious effort and what about “Contraband” made sense for the band’s first guest spot ever? The band has been in existence for well over a decade and have never done any guest features. Make Them Suffer guitarist Nick McLernon weighed in on the new single and the next chapter for the band. The track also underscored just how vital the band’s presence has become in the landscape of not only the massive export of quality have music from Australia – but an emerging generation of dynamic songwriters that are propelling aggressive music to new, articulate heights. For Make Them Suffer, the track crossed new terrain, serving as the first guest feature in the band’s history. ![]() Resurfacing after a relatively silent 2020, Make Them Suffer debuted the fruit of that relationship with their first joint effort ever in “Contraband” – assisted by Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante. The like-minded entities quickly cemented a friendship that would eventually lead to collaboration. Just prior to the lockdown of the world, the band spent some time on the road with another emerging unit in Spiritbox. Though forced to cut touring plans and essentially debut their strongest album to date without any ability to share it live – Make Them Suffer used the time away from their routine due to the pandemic to reinforce their creative productivity. The album further asserted the band’s status and underscored that the potential showcased in Worlds Apart and its subsequent singles – was no fluke at all. While the world was working though the white noise of a world gone mad, Make Them Suffer managed to debut their fourth album in How to Survive A Funeral to universal acclaim – no small feat given the climate. That momentum carried over into an abysmal 2020. Utilizing the blueprint from Worlds Apart, Make Them Suffer steadily climbed the ranks of modern metal all while retaining their creative integrity. Make Them Suffer would press on, assemble a fresh line-up with the addition of Books Nile and release pivotal singles in the likes of “ 27” and “ Hallowed Heart“. Despite enduring the loss of key personnel, the band managed to not only regroup and reconfigure – the album’s strength seemingly segued into the remaining core finding their stride. ![]() The album presented a compelling assertion of the band’s obvious songwriting prowess – a competent mesh of melody and mayhem that distinguished MTS from their contemporaries. Shortly after the release of their third album, Worlds Apart, the band faced significant personnel changes and found themselves in a unique situation. Though the outfit from Perth as been a fixture in heavy music for the last decade, it’s difficult to argue with the kind of trajectory that Make Them Suffer have earned since 2018. Ramon Gonzales in Culture on July 22, 2021įollowing the groundwork laid with How to Survive a Funeral, the Perth-based collective continues their charge with their first-ever collaboration – an auspicious indicator of what’s to come. ![]()

So far it still starts fine, the lights are bright, the stereo is loud, the heated seats keep my ass warm, etc. This is 5 days/week plus a few miles on the weekends. 2.9 miles to the gym and then 1 mile back home. I have an '11 M3 with a little over 8k miles on it. I hear several people saying that using a battery tender makes a difference but I don't see how. I do take some 20-30 milers 1-2 times a week which helps but the cars still need the tender ![]() The real killer is the heated seats, defrosters, A/C full blast on the short trips. Drop off at daycare 3 (car odd)miles, from daycare to home 3 miles(car off), to grade school after school 4 miles (car off), then home. My last report was like 120 trips under 5km in 30 days. Where we live we are about 5 miles from most places we go. These short distances do not allow a battery to actually charge and you are using more power than charging. BMW's qualifies a bad profile by somebody who drive less than 5km at a time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now the weight of the water in the napkin on the empty side exceeds that above the water level in the full glass. When the lowest molecules in the empty glass descend below the water level in the full one, gravity kicks in with a helping hand. Once enough water molecules have crept up and over the rim of the full glass, they begin their descent into the empty one. So capillary action draws the water to the top of the napkin but the siphoning action is due to gravity. Office paper is coated with clay to fill the tiny spaces in an attempt to prevent the same thing from happening. Those water molecules pulled in drag others along because they are also very strongly attracted to each other. Water is pulled up into these spaces by the force of electromagnetic attraction to the cellulose. There are billions of tiny little interconnected spaces between the individual cellulose fibres in your napkin. But again, it's the electromagnetic force driving the show and causing the water to disobey gravity. Capillary is just another name for a narrow tube and that's how this motion gets its name. In a narrow tube, like a glass rod with a tiny hole running through it, the strong attraction to the walls pulls water molecules up to incredible heights. And those molecules pull more water molecules up causing the surface of water in a glass or plastic cup to bow up at the edges and form a concave shape, called a meniscus. That's what makes those molecules in a glass of water on the surface literally creep up walls. And that is why water sticks to itself so incredibly well - it's the electromagnetic attraction between them.īut water molecules are also strongly attracted to many other materials like glass, plastic and paper. Those positive tips on one water molecule are very strongly attracted to the negative poles of two others, and vice versa. Chemists call these electrically charged regions 'poles' (like the North and South Pole) and chemicals that have them are polar molecules. As a result, every water molecule has one slightly negatively electrically charged end and two slightly positively charged tips. Water does because the two hydrogen atoms and single oxygen atom that make up each individual molecule arrange themselves in an electrically nifty way. That fierce attraction is driven by the electromagnetic force which binds every atom in every molecule in the universe together. This surprising behaviour is the result of water's strong affinity for itself and its attraction to countless other materials, like glass, plastic and cellulose. Here's a neat photo demonstrating the same effect in glass straws with some really tiny internal diameters. You can verify this fact with one of those tiny bendy straws you find on the side of a single serve fruit juice carton. What you might not have noticed is that the thinner the straw, the higher the water climbs up inside. Look carefully and you'll notice the water level inside the straw is always slightly higher than the water surface outside. The same thing happens to a lesser extent in a drinking straw resting in a glass of water. That's capillary action at work but what exactly causes the water to disobey gravity with such reckless abandon? You've probably noticed that water instantly races up and into the fabric of a paper napkin or tissue upon the slightest contact. It's called capillary action and it is no exaggeration to say that you and I would not be here without it.
